Tambuwal Emerges APC Guber Candidate In Sokoto


Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has been declared the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state.

At the governorship primary of the party concluded Tuesday night, Tambuwal defeated four other contestants for the ticket, with a very wide margin.


In an election that appeared like a coronation for the king, he polled 3,462 votes out of the 3,513 cast by the delegates from all the local councils in the state.

Senator Umar Dahiru, who contested along with him scored 23 votes; Yushau Kebbe, a leader of the party in the state got 13 votes. Professor Lawal Bashir, a former chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education, and Aliyu Sanyinna, a former commissioner, all recorded no vote.
Mr. Bolaji Hakeem who announced the result commended the delegates for the peaceful conduct of the poll and for their political maturity.

Speaker Tambuwal, in a victory speech promised to continue the good works of Governor Aliyu Wammako, who he described as a good leader, who has been of great inspiration to the younger generation.

Tambuwal promised that if he wins the governorship election next February, his government will focus on education, agriculture and job creation that will improve the well being of the people.
He also urged his fellow contestants to support him as the party goes into election next year.
