Senate throws out list of 46 non career ambassadors

The Senate yesterday resolved to return the list of 46 non career ambassadors submitted to it for consideration and confirmation by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is coming even as the upper chamber laboured to approve another list of 47 career ambassadors forwarded to it by President Buhari.

Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume informed the chamber that in view of numerous petitions submitted to the Senate against the non career ambassadorial nominees, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs recommended that the list be returned to the President to rework and resubmit to the Senate for consideration and approval.
The Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio seconded the motion by Ndume that the list should be returned to President Buhari “to rejig and resubmit to the Senate.”
The Senate President put the motion to a voice vote. The lawmakers unanimously adopted it.
Findings by our reporter showed that at the last count, more than 250 petitions were submitted to the Senate against the nominees.
