Okonjo-Iweala spent $2.1bn without approval, says FG

The National Economic Council, chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday accused a former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of spending $2.1bn from the Excess Crude Account without authorisation.

“We looked at the numbers for the Excess Crude Account. The last time the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reported to the council, and it is in the minutes, she reported by November 2014 that we had $4.1 bn.

NFF fires Super Falcons head coach Edwin Okon for poor performance

The Nigeria football Federation ( NFF ) has fired Super Falcons head coach Edwin Okon. 

According to reports, he was fired following the Super Falcons poor performance at the just concluded FIFA Women's World cup in Canada after the team failed to make it out of the group stage. The team's assistant coach, Christopher Danjuma has been appointed acting coach.

Buhari inaugurates National Economic Council

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday inaugurated the National Economic Council.

The council which will be led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has the 36 state governors and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria as members.

Oxford dictionary adds twerk, presidentiable, FLOTUS, carnap to English lexicon

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED), on Thursday, added twerk, carnap, FLOTUS and scores of other new entries, including many introduced from Asia and from online slang, to its latest edition.

 OED Editor, Danica Salazar, said in London that the word twerk, a dance popularised by music stars and Internet memes, actually dated back about 200 years as a combination of twist and jerk first spelled as “twirk.’’

FIFA President, Sepp Blatter today June 26th told Swiss newspaper, Blick, that he has not resigned as President of the world football body.

Power supply to exceed 5,500MW by July

Power supply would exceed 5,500 Mega Watts in (MW) July, said the Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi on Thursday.

 According to him, there is improvement in gas supply to power, while transmission capacity has now increased to 5,500MW.

Samuel Eto’o set to join Antalyaspor

Cameroon striker,  Samuel Eto’o is on the verge of adding another country to his CV after undergoing a medical at Turkey side  Antalyaspor.

Buhari appoints Ahmed Idris as Accountant General

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Idris as the Accountant General of the Federation.

In a statement by Haruna Imrana, Director of Communications for the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, Head of Service of the Federation who announced the appointment, said that the appointment is with effect from June 25, 2015.

Lagos state govt opposes Sexual Offences bill 2014

Lagos state government yesterday added it's voice to the growing opposition to the controversial Sexual Offences Bill 2014 now awaiting the assent of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The controversial bill is among the 46 bills hurriedly passed by the last Senate house and forwarded to the President for his assent.

Armed robbers invade two banks in Lagos, Carts away cash

Suspected armed robbers numbering about 10 on Wednesday invaded two major commercial banks at the Ogolonto area of Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb, carting away an undisclosed amount of money.

The hoodlums who were said to have packed their loots inside a Toyota Sienna vehicle they allegedly brought, according to eyewitnesses, overpowered policemen at the Ebute Ipakodo station located opposite the banks.

Boko Haram kill 40 in two Borno villages

Not fewer than  40 villagers were murdered  on Monday when Boko Haram terrorists attacked two villages of Borno state,  witnesses and security sources have said.

The two villages Debiro both share a geographical division between Hauwul Local Government and Biu Local government areas both in Borno state came under spate attacks on Monday and Tuesday.

Saraki appoints Galaudu, Olaniyonu as aides

‎Police deploys 158 vehicles nationwide to replace military checkpoints

Following the recent order by President, Muhammadu Buhari for the immediate removal of military checkpoints across the country, the Inspector General of Police has said he will deploy 158 patrol vehicles to fill the vacuum that the military checkpoints removal will create.

He however noted that he would need the collaboration of community members to fill the vacuum because his officers are not enough. 

US, other International Communities to assist Nigeria recover stolen funds, says Buhari

 President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said that his administration has received firm assurances of cooperation from the United States and other countries on the recovery and repatriation of funds stolen from Nigeria.

 He made the remark while speaking at an audience with members of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, at the State House, Abuja.

Buhari To Governors: Days Of Impunity, Reckless Management Of National Resources Over

President Buhari Tuesday in Abuja assured State Governors that the days of impunity, lack of accountability, and fiscal recklessness in the management of national resources are over in Nigeria.

Speaking at a meeting with the Governors in the Presidential Villa, President Buhari also vowed that funds stolen by government officials who abused their offices in the recent past will be recovered and systemic leakages stopped.

Twin Explosions kill 15 In Maiduguri

No fewer than 15 people have been confirmed dead following twin explosions that rocked Baga road in Maiduguri, Borno state today, Monday June 22nd. 

The bomb attacks were carried out by two female suicide bombers. One of the female suicide bombers blew herself up around the Baga market area while the second one detonated the bomb strapped on her inside the market. Most of the victims killed were women and children.

Court Sentenced Fraudster To Three Years Imprisonment For N27million Scam

Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on Monday June 22, 2015, convicted and sentenced one Emmanuel Osita (a.k.a Chuks) to three years imprisonment on a two count charge of obtaining money by false pretence. The convict was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, sequel to a petition from a legal practitioner on behalf of one Mrs. Veronica Okonkwo, an eighty-one (81) year-old woman who was the victim.

The convicts while operating as a commercial tri-cyclist conspired with other persons who are still at large and falsely represented to the victim that they had the capacity to produce local and foreign currencies from pieces of papers by dipping them into mercury.

Buhari Orders Removal Of Military Checkpoints Nationwide

President Buhari has ordered the dismantling of military checkpoints nationwide. 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila, made this known to State House correspondents after a meeting President Buhari had with Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja earlier today.

White House Missing Chef found dead

Former White House Chef, 61-year-old Walter Scheib, who went missing on June 13th after going hiking alone in the New Mexico mountain. Searchers today found his body on a hiking trail in mountains in the Taos area, the New Mexico State Police said.

His cause of death has not been released. More details will be released later.

Second Lekki-Epe Expressway: Ambode Declares Toll-free

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has assured residents that tolls will not be collected at the second toll point on the Lekki- Epe Expressway.

Ambode made the remark at an interactive session with journalists at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos House, Ikeja, a statement said on Sunday.

The governor, in the statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said his concern was ensuring the completion of the road.

MTN signs Cobhams Asuquo as brand ambassador

As part of its commitment to enhancing the lives of Nigerian musicians by providing platforms through which they can get lucrative value for their intellectual properties, MTN Nigeria has concluded plans to boost the financial fortune of its brand ambassadors with several millions of naira in the next one year.

New National Assemble Members To Recieve N9billion As Wardrobe Allowance

The newly sworn in 8th National Assembly have been accused of being allegedly entitled to the sum of N9billion as wardrobe allowance as from next week.

Considering the fact that the said N9billion would not cover for other allowances such as housing, furniture and vehicle, which are the lawmakers entitlements, Nigerians have taken to the social media to express their displease.

Similarly, management of the National Assembly is reportedly currently allocating offices to the 469 federal lawmakers in both chambers of the NASS ahead of their resumption on June 23 from the two-week recess that they embarked.

Out of the said N9billion wardrobe allowance, each of the 360 lawmakers at the House of Representatives is expected to smile home with about N17.5 million while the 109 senators would have a share of N21.5 million each.

Meanwhile, the new senate president, Senator Bukola Saraki in a different report on Tuesday, promised that the 8th Senate will work to prevent revenue leakages in the country.

Mrs Ronke Olayinka has been arrested for inflicting terrible injuries on her 9 year old nephew named Abdullahi Taoreed .

 According to New Telegraph, the woman inflicted blade cuts on the boy for eating at a party on June 7th. The boy's parents are dead.

On the day of the incident Abdullahi said he went to the house opposite theirs at Pipeline Street in Oke-Odo area of Lagos to serve food and also to eat since there was no food in their house.

Twin bomb explosions kill 9 in Potiskum Yobe

The Police in Yobe, on Monday confirmed the death of nine persons in twin bomb explosions which rocked Potiskum, the commercial nerve center of the State.

Mr Toyin Gbadegeshin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Yobe, confirmed the explosions to NAN in Potiskum.

Gbadegeshin said one of the bombers targeted the vigilante office, killing seven persons, while two others died in the second explosion which occurred at Dorowa Ward in the town.

Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has warned influence peddlers never to collect money from people who want to see her husband.

Passenger caught stealing on Lagos-Abuja flight

A passenger, Mr. Ovuironye Mathew Dennis, travelling onboard a 6.45am Aero flight today Monday was caught while stealing about N350, 000 from a luggage belonging to an Austrian, Novotny Anton, another passenger on the flight.

Dennis,  31 with 1.65 height as captured in his temporary driver’s licence and seating on flight seat No. 23C  was spotted by a member of the airline’s cabin crew when he removed the Austrian’s bag from the cockpit as if he was changing his seat.

Omisore calls on Gov. Aregbesola to resign

People's Democratic Party's governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, called on Mr. Rauf Aregbesola to resign from his position as governor.

He should allow people with goodwill to run the government because under his watch, the state is on "life support."

Speaking with newsmen at the Peoples Democratic Party's state secretariat in Osogbo on Sunday, Omisore said for Aregbesola to have admitted that the issue of Osun was beyond his capacity, he expected him to have communicated the state House of Assembly and honourably vacate the seat of governor.
